Department Description

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association is a wholesale electric power supplier owned by the 44 electric cooperatives that it serves. Tri-State generates and transmits electricity to its member systems throughout a 200,000 square-mile service territory across Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming.

Serving approximately 1.5 million consumers, Tri-State was founded in 1952 by its member systems to provide a reliable, cost-based supply of electricity. Headquartered in Westminster, Colo., nearly 1,200 people are employed by Tri-State throughout its four-state service area.

Tri-State's power is generated through a combination of owned baseload and peaking power plants that use coal and natural gas as their primary fuels, supplemented by purchased power, federal hydroelectricity allocations and renewable resource technologies. Tri-State delivers power to its members through a transmission system that includes substation facilities, telecommunications sites and over 5000 miles of high voltage transmission lines.

Brief Posting Description

Inspect, install, remove, and repair electronic, hydraulic, and control equipment. Design, program, and implement software, hardware, and hardware with non-volatile software.

Job Requirements

  1. Must have a satisfactory work record.

  2. Must have and maintain a Class R Colorado-Driver's license.

  3. Must have successfully passed or be able to successfully pass the following tests prior to accepting the position:

(a) TABE Reading Test

(b) Mechanical Concepts Test

(c) Color Vision Test

(d) Manual Dexterity

(e) Ramsay Corporation Electrical Aptitude Test

(f) Generation Apprentice Qualification Test

(g) Generation Electronics Qualification Test

  1. Must have successfully passed or be able to pass the following classes within six months of receiving the position:

(a) Clearance Order Procedure

(b) Confined Space Entry Procedure

(c) EHS Basics

(d) Power Plant Fundamentals

  1. Must meet ONE of the following requirements:

(a) Must have satisfactorily successfully passed Tri-State's Instrument and Control (or Electrician) Apprenticeship Program.

OR

(b) Must have successfully completed a four-year apprentice program recognized Tri-State in the instrumentation (or electrical field) and possess two year's of practical experience in maintenance of industrial instrumentation and controls equipment (or of electrical/electromechanical controls and equipment).

OR

(c) Must have a Associate's Degree in instrument an controls field with advanced studies in instrumentation and controls (or an Associates Degree in the electrical and electromechanical field with advanced studies in electrical/electromechanical controls and equipment), and four years of practical experience in maintenance of industrial instrumentation and controls equipment (or of industrial electrical/electromechanical controls equipment.

OR

(d) Must have the equivalent technical training received in approved courses; and four years of practical experience in maintenance of industrial instrumentation controls and equipment (or of industrial electrical/electromechanical controls equipment).

OR

(e) Must have six years experience in the industrial field as a journey level instrument control technician (or electrician).

  1. Must have sufficient knowledge of, and skill in, the safe use of electrical and electronic tools and test equipment.

(Must be able to demonstrate the capability of performing all of the essential functions of the position.)
